To the Heights, Part Two
The weekend provided all kinds of activities for car enthusiasts and shoppers, kid’s on jumping harnesses, and for those who had a specific destination. It is Labor Day Weekend in the United States. So great to see the little ones enjoying themselves on these large blowup bouncing rooms.(Notice there’s no trash, weeds, or electrical wires visible anywhere…Swiss pride!)
My destination was visible and majestic, Monte Bre, the companion vantage point to Monte San Salvatore on the opposite side of Lake Lugano. Rising 3035 feet above sea level, the site is one of the most popular ones in the city. Here’s a webcam to have live views of Lugano anytime you want (Lugano.ch).
This view shows the density of residential homes, condos, and apartments build for optimum lake views. It hosts Restaurante Vetta at its peak. Don’t think I hiked up the steep walkways and paths to the top! There’s a great tram that did the leg-work for me. The ascent takes about 15 minutes and you move from the street tram to another one that makes the actual ascent. Along the way, people were sunbathing and swimming in in-ground pools. I noticed the roads winding up the mountain and preferred the tram to the narrow and steep road. When you get to the summit, the view was well worth the trip. Both pictures present not only the life around Lake Lugano, but also and the lack of it where the mountains slopes are just too steep to contruct a home and access to it.
After enjoying a cold glass of Calandar beer, coming down the site via tram, I enjoyed the 2 mile walk back to Casa Santa Brigitta in Parasido.
