Lively Waterfront
Walking along the Lake affords you the luxury of stopping, looking around at sights and people, and just enjoying the ‘sun and fun.’ And yes, I did bring the sunscreen (SPF 30!) One priest guest from Chur commented on my healthy look… “like an athlete.” I told him, “Sorry Father, wrong priest!” A Sister asked me if I was concerned about getting lost. “Lost? Not as long as I can see the lake, I know exactly where we live.” Off I went. First destination, the Piazza della Riforma.
Lugano is hosting quite the auto show this weekend. I suspect the crowds will be larger today. From Kia, Audi, Ferrari, Porche, Mercedes, and a favorite of two secret blog followers, an Aston Martin. This beauty was in the Piazza, mentioned in a previous post. As I mentioned, Lugano is the third financial center of Switzerland, but my Hyundai was on display, too!
I find there are quite a few public parks in the central area. College students, people walking their dog(s), young lovers, all enjoying the sunshine and the great weather. Seeing Monte San Salvatore from across the harbor is quite impressive. How you can really see the majesty of it overlooking the city.
One really beauty public area is the Parco Ciani. Expansive lawns, sculptures, beautiful planted gardens, and the original home of the donors is now the Cantonal Libraruy of Ticino.
After a 2.5 hour walk, I needed something to cool me down. I knew exactly where to go. The view is great, the beer is cold, and Miha, the waiter from the former Yugoslavia, is friendly. He was charming the customers as I was writing some notes. I like this table with its water view! Ciao!
