Sad Days
Late Wednesday evening, I received a message from Graziano that his father had been sent to the hospital but he was stable. However, another message informed me that Giuseppe Rossi, a faithful husband, father and believer, quietly and peacefully returned to the house of the Father. There was never a moment’s doubt that I would not return to Poschiavo for the tradition services for the dead.
The custom here is to post the notice for the funeral at the doors of the Church. Once the time of the Mass of Christian Burial is set, the Church bells toll to announce that a parishioner has died. The announcement is posted with the hours for the sitation, the public recitation of the rosary, the Mass, and burial.
Don Davide very graciously offered hospitality to me for these three days. He translated his homily for me, and his words and sentiments about Giuseppe were a clear and uncomplicated as was his life. He loved his wife and children Graziano and Bridgitta, his two granddaughters, and the God who created and guided him throughout his life.
From my August vacations in Poschiavo, a visit ot two to Giusepps and Catherina was always on the schedule. In later years when they moved into the assisted living center, we would walk with, and in later years, push Caterina’s wheel chair along the paths of the town. I dropped back to capture this very touching picture of Graziano and his parents. I sent this to Graziano upon learning of the death of his mother. I share it with you today:
If you click on the link directy below, you’ll see the short video of their walk. (It may take a few moments to load.)

”No matter how long the journey, it is never long enough.”
Rest in peace, Giuseppe, and may angels guide you to your rest. Amen
